The trip includes a sightseeing tour of rural Essex, two rides out on vintage coaches from the 1940s and 1950s,

as well morning coffee & biscuits, a ploughman's lunch AND tea & cake! 

 

 

 

We begin in beautiful Thaxted, Queen of Essex, for morning refreshments in an old coaching inn.

 

From high in the coach we'll take in the gently rolling landscapes of rural Essex and the chocolate box village of Finchingfield as we head south to the little known Essex Rodings. Eight villages full of old thatched cottages, timber-framed manor houses and farmhouses form the largest group in the country to share a common name. The Rodings name comes from the Anglo-Saxon Hrodingas who sailed up the River Thames 1500 years ago, turned right at Barking Creek and kept going until they found this remote and fertile landscape.

 

A ploughman's lunch will be on offer at the Lodge Coaches Garage in High Easter, where we will be surrounded by the vintage vehicle collection and old coaching ephemera collection of the Lodge Family.

 

In the afternoon there is time to enjoy the collection of old coaching and bus ephemera, with rides out in immaculately restored 1940s and 1950s coaches that have starred in Only Fools spin off Rock & Chips and blockbuster series The Crown.

 

We finish the day with tea & cake

 

The day is led from start to finish by a top notch Blue Badge Tour Guide - a master of ceremonies and storyteller who will create a memorable experience for you.

 

 

 

 

Requests for particular seats on the coach can be made when booking and we will do our best to accommodate these requests, but allocations are made on a first come first served basis, dependent upon customer mobility. We reserve the right to change your seat and allocate you a different one for operational reasons. On single bookings, we reserve the right to alter your seating to maximize the seating available. We accept no liability in the event of any such change.

• Most of the day will be spent sightseeing from coaches.

• Walking is easy and won't exceed 800 yards spread throughout the day.

Timetable

• Our timetables are unique, bookings are taken throughout the year, and we release the pickup times around a month before departure. This allows us to ensure our pickup routes are kept to a minimum and our days run to time.

• Arrival and departure times in our brochure and on our website are a guideline and will be confirmed on your final confirmation.

• On some trips we run Fast Track pickups, typically on coastal trips or those of some distance. This shortens the pickup times and gets you to the destination in good time.
