Waterperry Gardens is a magical place where you are surrounded by beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers, classical borders, modern planting, secret corners and long vistas.

Home to the renowned horticultural college between 1932 and 1971, the emphasis was on food production rather than spectacular ornamental gardens.

Over the past twenty years though the gardens have developed and grown, and many new projects have been undertaken and completed.

You’ll now find a Formal Garden, the Mary Rose Garden, a Waterlilly Canal, the the Long Colour Border and a small arboretum in the meadow area beyond the canal.

The site includes a Garden Shop, Plant Centre, Gift Barn, Art in Action Gallery, Rural Life Museum & Saxon Church.

The Museum

You’ll be hard pushed to find a better collection of ancient tools and implements than those housed in our Museum of Rural Life.

The 18th Century granary building provides the perfect backdrop for the wide range of horticultural and agricultural tools, which give a flavour of life in times gone by.

The Church

The parish church of St Mary the Virgin at Waterperry is widely considered to be an architectural gem.

Nestling close to the manor house, the plain exterior – including an unusual wooden tower – belies the beauty and history inside – in fact few small churches can boast such a wonderful collection of ancient glass, brasses and monumental plaques.
