Experience the Black Country of yesteryear as you explore over 250 years of history, from the Industrial Revolution to post-war prosperity, through living interpretation at Black Country Living Museum in Dudley in the West Midlands.

Mind yer’ head as you go underground in a drift mine, get your toes tapping to 1950s vinyl and watch clay fly at Cricket Field Brickworks. Or perhaps take part in an Edwardian school lesson – but be careful not to get the cane, bab!

Please note: the timings in the brochure are incorrect. We are planning an 11.30am arrival and a 5pm departure.

Requests for particular seats on the coach can be made when booking and we will do our best to accommodate these requests, but allocations are made on a first come first served basis, dependent upon customer mobility. We reserve the right to change your seat and allocate you a different one for operational reasons. On single bookings, we reserve the right to alter your seating to maximize the seating available. We accept no liability in the event of any such change.

Accessibility

Wheelchair and mobility scooter access

  • Wheelchair and mobility scooter access is available on the site with some areas on an incline and uneven surfaces.

  • There is stepped access to many of the shop entrances.

  • Portable ramps are available to allow access to many of the shops and buildings.

  • Visitors are encouraged to bring their own wheelchair or motorised scooter in order to get around the Museum. These ideally should be used along pedestrian routes, taking care to avoid collision and blocking paths. Please follow route markings and remember that BCLM is a 26 acre open air Museum site so don’t forget to charge your scooter fully before arriving.

  • The Museum has a small number of manual wheelchairs (rated 18 stone/115 kilos weight). Advanced booking is required and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please call 0121 557 9643 or email info@bclm.com. There is no charge for the use of these wheelchairs.

  • The Museum has a vintage style vehicle, ‘Doris’, named after the mother of one of the original donors of the vehicle. Doris is the Museum’s accessibility vehicle; she has a tail lift to enable visitors in wheelchairs and those with mobility issues easy access. Doris is able to carry manual wheelchairs and pushchairs, but not motorised wheelchairs or mobility scooters.  You can request Doris at any time by calling our Duty Manager on 07788 666161 or emailing bookings@bclm.com

There are adapted accessible toilets in the following locations:

  • Several accessible toilets located in the Visitor Centre.

  • In the Workers’ Institute Café.

  • Two in the Elephant & Castle Public House – one downstairs and one upstairs (accessible via a lift. Please speak to staff for lift access).

Induction loops are located in the Visitor Centre in the café and shop.

There are various places to purchase food and drink across the Museum with dietary needs catered for.

Day Trip Departures

Timetable

  • Our timetables are unique, bookings are taken throughout the year, and we release the pickup times around a month before departure. This allows us to ensure our pickup routes are kept to a minimum and our days run to time.

  • Arrival and departure times in our brochure and on our website are a guideline and will be confirmed on your final confirmation.

  • On some trips we run Fast Track pickups, typically on coastal trips or those of some distance. This shortens the pickup times and gets you to the destination in good time.

  • Terms and Conditions can be found on our website or copies supplied upon request.
