Ely Cathedral is a Christian Church offering daily worship and a place of prayer and sanctity.

It is the seat of the Bishop of Ely and the mother church of over 300 parishes that make up the Diocese of Ely.

The Cathedral is also a historical monument, built to the glory of God, which welcomes thousands of pilgrims and visitors every year.

Rising above the Cambridgeshire Fens, Ely is the destination City with something for everyone.

From the monastic buildings of the city past, the vibrant food scene and the scenic majesty of the Riverside, Ely packs a great deal into a pocket city.

Accessibility at Ely Cathedral

  • Due to the age and fabric of our beautiful building, some of the floor surfaces can be uneven. We are fully committed to the safety and well-being of all visitors and take every precaution to highlight any areas which may present a trip hazard.

  • We have adapted as much of the Cathedral as possible to make it more accessible for those with limited mobility. There is a public disability parking bay near the front of the cathedral and access for visitors in wheelchairs is through the west doors. The west door entrance can be accessed by ramps and the south door exit is ramp free.

  • Wheelchair users can access most areas of the Cathedral ground floor. All areas are either flat or ramped, including the Lady Chapel and the Cathedral shop.

  • We advise you to bring your own wheelchair to the cathedral, if possible. We do have a small number available on request

  • Accessible toilets are in the Processional Way, between the north choir aisle and the Lady Chapel.

  • Access to the Octagon Tower (165 steps), and West Tower (288 steps) is via stairs only. We recommend that those with pre-existing medical conditions, mobility difficulties or concerns with heights and confined spaces do not attempt this climb.

Day Trip Departures

Timetable

  • Our timetables are unique, bookings are taken throughout the year, and we release the pickup times around a month before departure. This allows us to ensure our pickup routes are kept to a minimum and our days run to time.

  • Arrival and departure times in our brochure and on our website are a guideline and will be confirmed on your final confirmation.

  • On some trips we run Fast Track pickups, typically on coastal trips or those of some distance. This shortens the pickup times and gets you to the destination in good time.

  • Terms and Conditions can be found on our website or copies supplied upon request.
