Covent Garden

We start our day at Covent Garden where you can spend a couple of hours at your leisure.

A shopping and entertainment hub in London's West End, Covent Garden centres on the elegant, car-free Piazza, home to fashion stores, craft stalls at the Apple Market, and the Royal Opera House. Street entertainers perform by 17th-century St. Paul’s Church, and the London Transport Museum houses vintage vehicles.

Postal Museum

Bringing to life five centuries of extraordinary communications history, as seen through the eyes of the iconic postal service.

Experience interactive and family-friendly permanent and temporary exhibitions, join special events and learning activities, use modern research facilities and take an immersive ride on Mail Rail, London’s secret Post Office underground railway.

The Postal Museum is the public identity of the Postal Heritage Trust, an independent charity created to protect and share this rich history and heritage.

PLEASE NOTE:

Lift access is available in all spaces open to the public in The Postal Museum and Mail Rail with the exception of the Mail Rail Ride

Due to the historic nature of the Mail Rail and to ensure the safety of all our guests, access to the ride is restricted. All visitors boarding the train must be able to transfer themselves in and out of the train unaided. In the event of an emergency evacuation all visitors must be able to walk unaided on uneven terrain, in a confined space and with low lighting levels for approximately 100 metres, before climbing 70 steps to the surface. Due to the size constrictions of the ride, no wheelchairs or walking aids can be accommodated in the carriages and must be left in the cages provided before boarding the train.

Mail Rail Access

The historical nature of Mail Rail and the evacuation procedure means that riding the Mail Rail is not suitable for all visitors.

Please read the information below to ensure the ride is suitable for you before booking a ticket.

Essential Information

  • In the event of an emergency evacuation guests must be able to walk unaided for a minimum of 100 metres on uneven surfaces with minimal lighting, and up at least 70 steep steps. Visitors who do not meet these requirements will be unable to ride.

  • Visitors must be able to enter and exit the carriages independently.

  • The audio-visual shows projected onto the platform walls during the ride contain flashing lights and would not be suitable for those with photo-sensitive epilepsy.

  • There is no option to exit once the ride has begun and it will last approximately 15 minutes.

  • The Mail Rail ride is a loud, highly visually stimulating experience, so would not be suitable for those who may find this distressing.

  • The carriages are small and some of the tunnels are very narrow; this may be unsuitable or uncomfortable for visitors sensitive to small, confined spaces.

  • Visitors sensitive to darkness may find the experience distressing.

  • The tunnels can smell of damp and it can smell stronger at specific points of the rid
